Chancellor to Launch Enroll Ohio Tour February 1 at The Ohio State University
Participants will explore social media in higher education and discuss how to enroll more students in the University System of Ohio
For Immediate Release | January 29, 2009
COLUMBUS – The public is invited to attend a series of events as part of February's "Enroll Ohio" month – as proclaimed by Governor Ted Strickland – hosted by Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut to discuss how to help more Ohioans get into school and pay for it. The tour, part of the statewide campaign to help more Ohioans access a college education, will bring together a variety of people including educators, admissions counselors, legislators, financial aid officers, students and more for an open discussion about making it easy and affordable to pursue a higher education.
"Our Strategic Plan for Higher Education is a blueprint for helping more Ohioans get the education they need," Chancellor Fingerhut said. "But we know there is more that we can do. We want to discover additional ways to make college an affordable reality for Ohioans, and using social media, share what we find with as many people as possible."
The first event is Monday, February 1, from 1-5 p.m. at The Ohio State University Longaberger Alumni House (Sanders Grand Lounge), 2200 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio.
There will be two parts to the Enroll Ohio event. The first, a high-energy presentation called Beyond the Mainstream: Thriving in a Digital Media World, is hosted by Dr. Debra Jasper and Betsy Hubbard from The Ohio State University's John Glenn School of Public Affairs. It is a thought-provoking experience that shows how universities and schools are using social media to reach students, parents, community leaders and others. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn more about the latest tools for student recruitment, building relationships and turning more Ohioans into Ohio alumni.
Next, Chancellor Fingerhut will host an open conversation, asking participants to share their ideas for enrolling more students and creating ways to lower their costs. The discussion will feature Lorain County Community College's Groupware technology, collecting participants’ ideas in real time so that the immediate feedback can shape the discussion.
The February 1 event will be the first in a series of five regional forums.
